 Willow RosenbergWillow has been Xander's best friend since they were very young -- at least kindergarten, when he remembers her breaking the yellow crayon and crying because she was afraid to tell anyone. Probably even earlier. Xander's parents presumably know Willow's parents, since they were at her Bat Mitzvah (a Jewish coming of age ceremony for young girls, at approximately age 13) where, predictably, they got drunk and made a fuss. Willow traditionally goes over to Xander's house around Christmastime to watch "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and see him do the Snoopy Dance. She had a crush on him for many, many years, which he seems to have alternately been oblivious to, and politely pretended to be oblivious to because he didn't feel that way about her. This somehow resulted in a brief fling that never progressed further than kissing and a little groping, while they were both seeing other people. Said fling broke up Xander and Cordelia, but Willow and Oz bounced back from it. Afterwards, though, Willow and Xander weren't as close, partially through guilt, and partially so that Willow could show Oz there was nothing romantic going on between her and Xander. Lately (post season 4, Oz' departure and the gang making up in "Primeval,") they've been closer. There's been the understandable distance of growing up, though, and having more committed significant others (Anya and Tara) and it isn't until the tragic events of the end of Season 6 that it seems they're back to that place of best friend, there until the end.
